Sammy's Science House
(Ages 2 to 5) $19.99
Item# 9404
Subjects: Science (plants, animals, minerals, seasons and weather)
Review by Natalie Walker Whitlock for Tutor House
We were already fans of Millie's Math House and Bailey's Book House, so we expected
good things from their sister product Sammy's Science House. We were not
disappointed.
Sammy, a cute and clever worm, leads kids ages 4 to 7 on explorations in reasoning and
science. The brightly animated software covers basic skills leading to science literacy,
such as observation, prediction, classification, sequencing, and sorting. Five different
areas of discovery include activities that are both educational and entertaining.
In the Workshop area children can follow blueprints to build toys and machines, or create
something of their own design.
Next, play meteorologist with the Weather Machine. The temperature, wind, and moisture
conditions can be controlled and varied, and kids can view the results acted out on the
screen as Fred bear gives their weather report.
Creative thinking is the focus in the Create-A-Movie area, as kids sequence pictures into
their own movies.
In the Sorting Station, kids can hear and gain familiarity with some common scientific
terms, discriminate similarities and differences in animals and minerals, and practice
scientific classification.
And at Acorn Pond, junior naturalists can discover how plants and animals live and print
out a field notebook to record their findings and observations in.
Sammy's Science House builds on your child's innate sense of curiosity and wonder. It gets
your child thinking about the world around in a new and fascinating way, helping him see
things from a scientific point of view.
